Bow River Fly Fishing Report

Runoff Is Here—But It’s Not Game Over

With temps climbing and a bit of rain pushing through, the Bow’s definitely shifting. Flows are up, clarity’s down in spots, and the river’s got some serious push behind it right now. That said, there’s still opportunity out there if you’re reading water right and adjusting your setup. It’s not the time for finesse — this is when bigger flies, heavier rigs, and smart drifts pay off.

What’s Working Right Now

Forget sight fishing for now—this is the time for bold moves and big profiles.

  • Streamers: Think black, olive, or white. Fish them deep and slow through soft edges and side channels.

  • Nymphs: Stoneflies, worms, and flashy beadheads are your friends. Use heavy weight and short leaders to get down fast.

  • Dry Flies: Not much surface action right now, but keep an eye out for caddis if the sun breaks through.

Tips for Success

  • Focus on slower water near banks and behind structure.

  • Use heavier tippet—3X or stronger—to handle the current.

  • Be cautious wading; the river's power is no joke during runoff.

Looking Ahead

With more heat and rain expected, conditions may continue to change rapidly. Stay adaptable and keep an eye on water levels. The fish are still there—you just have to adjust your approach.
