Founded by Zephyr LaPlante, Trout Fever was built on a lifelong passion for fly fishing and a deep appreciation for the Bow River. Having spent years learning its flows, changes, and hidden water, Zephyr brings both knowledge and energy to every trip, ensuring each guest gets the most out of their time on the river.

Whether you're brand new to fly fishing or have years of experience, our goal is simple: meet you where you're at and tailor the day to you. For some, that means learning the fundamentals and landing your first fish. For others, it’s refining technique, targeting quality fish, and covering productive water.

We pride ourselves on being personable, patient, and fully invested in your day. From the first cast to the last drift, we’re there to guide, teach, and make sure you’re enjoying every moment.

Trout Fever Fly Fishing Co. offers fully guided float trips on the Bow River, providing everything you need for a successful day—including gear, flies, instruction, and meals—so you can focus on the experience.

    FOUNDER/OWNER/GUIDE

    Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Zephyr has been fly fishing his whole life. His lifelong passion for the sport inspired him not only to turn it into a career but to found Trout Fever Fly Fishing Company Inc., blending his love for the outdoors with a commitment to sharing the art of angling. Also an avid outdoorsman, further deepening his connection with nature. A former high-level hockey player, Zephyr brings the same determination, discipline, and hard work from the rink to every fishing trip. Known for his personable and sociable nature, he genuinely enjoys connecting with people, creating memorable experiences on the water, and sharing the excitement of each catch. Zephyr is dedicated not only to guiding but also to teaching and growing the sport he loves—always eager to help others deepen their appreciation for fly fishing and have a fantastic time along the way.

    What keeps you coming back to the water?
    The fact that every day can teach you something different and knowing there’s always a bigger fish and a better day out there. It might be tomorrow… you just never know.

    What’s your favourite part of guiding?
    Being able to share the excitement and experience I have everyday with other people. Also to create memories and laughs that will last forever.

    What kind of fishing excites you the most?
    Streamer fishing

    What’s your favourite species to go after?
    Definitely Brown Trout

    What’s your go-to boat tune?
    Probably anything by Kenny Chesney or Treaty Oak Revival

    What’s a place or trip that’s high on your list?
    Iceland, New Zealand and probably Costa Rica

    Who had the biggest influence on your fishing?

    My grandpa and my dad as well. super thankful to have an outdoorsy family and to help me pursue my career

    Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Mike is an avid outdoorsman, embracing fly fishing with a deep-rooted love for the serene beauty these pursuits bring. With over 20 years of service as a full-time firefighter, he exemplifies dedication and hard work in every aspect of his life. A former hockey player at the University of Wisconsin, Mike's athletic journey led him to be drafted by the Anaheim Ducks, showcasing his competitive spirit and drive. Mike is an owner of Trout Fever Fly Fishing Co. and enjoys the thrill of fishing and the stunning landscapes that come with it. His passion for the sport is matched only by his appreciation for the memories created on the water, and his positive attitude enriches every fishing experience.
